Today Nigeria celebrates its independence at 58 years, personally, I feel disappointed but I came up with a positive aspect which is List of Nigerian Guinness book of record Holders.

I don’t feel we have something to celebrate as a nation but have every course to celebrate the citizens of Nigeria who in one way or the other has contributed their own quota towards making this nation great.

These Nigerians against all odds have made names for themselves and the nation at large by winning Guinness book of record, and they are as follows;

Ayodeji Richard Makun

Ayodeji Richard Makun, also known by his stage name A.Y, is a Nigerian actor, comedian, radio and TV presenter. Born on August 19, he hails from Ifon, Ose local government in Ondo State. He is the host of the A.Y live shows and A.Y comedy skits. His first movie, 30 Days in Atlanta was produced by him and directed by Robert O. Peters. He was made a U.N Peace Ambassador in 2009 after winning six awards in 2008. He is the CEO of Corporate World Entertainment Nigeria.

The movie has beaten the box office revenues of all the big budget Hollywood titles released in 2016 here in Nigeria. These include; Batman Vs. Superman, Captain America, Suicide Squad, London Has Fallen, Gods Of Egypt, Transporter, Doctor Strange, Tarzan, Magnificent 7 And Central Intelligence.

Obi Ajuonuma AKA DJ OBI

Late Levi Chibuike Ajuonuma’s son, Obi Ajuonuma, popularly known as DJ Obi, has officially broken the Guinness World record for the Longest DJ Set. DJ Obi achieved this feat on Friday, July 1, 2016 at exactly 7:30 am, at the Sao Café, Lekki PhaseI.

Thereby completing a 240-hour marathon on the decks at a Lagos cafe, smashing the previous record of 200 hours set in Dublin by a Polish DJ called Norbert Selmaj in November 2014.

He reportedly set the record in honour of his father, Levi Ajuonuma, who was a TV producer, before dying in the Dana airplane crash of 2012. His record is yet to be ratified.

Harrison Chinedu

A Nigerian football, Harrison Chinedu has gotten himself into the Guinness World Records for the ‘farthest distance walked with a ball on the head’.

Chinedu on Sunday, March 6 walked from the Redeemed Camp to the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos where he trekked around the main bowl eleven times to break the record before trekking further eleven times to set a new record.

The Cambodia based Nigerian footballer, walked a total distance of 48.04 kilometers in 6 hours, 15 minutes to beat the record formerly held by Indian soldier Naib Singh who walked a total distance of 45.64km in his country in 2014.

Olawunmi Treasures Bayode 

Olawunmi Treasures Bayode a 40-year-old Nigerian, Bayode Treasure Olawunmi, who few days ago set himself on a reading spree to break the World Guinness Book of Records mark for the “Longest Marathon Reading Aloud” Category has finally done it.

The book enthusiast and proud father of three children logged 120 hours at 3:30 pm today at the YouRead Library Yaba in Lagos, Nigeria.

His amazing record outpaced that of his predecessor – Deepak Sharma Bajagain from Nepal, who had 113 hours 15 minutes in 2008.

Kafayat Shafau AKA KAFFY

Kafayat Shafau is popularly known as Kaffy. She broke the world record in longest dance with a time of 52 hours and 3 minutes in 2006. She did this with her team, Imagneto, at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon. The renowned fitness and dance instructor, Kaffy has her own dance school. The 36-year-old has now been married for four years with two children.

Chidera Anemege 

Chidera Anemege popularly known as Chiddy of Chiddy Bang rapped his way into the Guinness book of records in 2011. He is the current holder of the longest rap freestyle by an individual. He set the record at the MTV O Music Awards in Las Vegas, the U.S.A. Chiddy freestyled for 9 hrs, 18 mins and 22 secs. He even had to keep rapping while using the toilet twice, to set the record.

Personally, I don’t think Nigeria has anything to celebrate at 58 rather than celebrate its citizens who despite all odds still thrive to make a difference. A typical example is list of these Nigerian Guinness book of record holders who are representing this nation well.

Today I celebrate Nigerian citizens and not this failed nation filled with selfish leaders.
